Is There a Culture War
Most of us are keen to preserve our environmental heritage and our cultural heritage but our intellectual heritage has been held in low esteem for much of the period since the Second World War by an adversarial elite which has dominated the intellectual life of the country. George Orwell, writing in the 1940s summed it up when he said that "almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during 'God Save the King' than of stealing from a poor box". By the 1960s and 1970s many such intellectuals had gained considerable influence in television and other media.

While Jeremy is a roaring boy in a sports car type vehicle says AFTER Princess Diana died, I recorded the funeral as a keepsake for my children, an indelible reminder of this incredible day.
Then last week, I used the tape to record Men In Black II.
In the big scheme of things, I figured Will Smith’s battle with alien life forms was probably more important for my kids than Elton warbling his way through England’s Rose.
And besides, since Diana, there have been countless other people I’ve vowed “never to forget”. None of whose names I can remember right now.

BBC Four News reported another gag by Nick Broomfield The story of Aileen Wuornos the first serial killer of men...
I saw the documentary about Heidi Fleiss Hollywood Madam
general dog's life style but Broomfield takes risks to get a relative newsie item in the can.

The Man Who Wasn't There by Anne S. Lewis A few days into my quest for an interview with documentary filmmaker Nick Broomfield, I began to feel like a Broomfield manqué, stalking serial killer Aileen Wuornos or Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss -- or trying to outfox Courtney Love. His L.A. office told me he was shooting commercials abroad but agreed to relay my request for a few minutes of his time. A day later, on Friday, a fax arrived with phone numbers telling me that Nick would prefer to do a telephone interview from London on Sunday before he left for Israel, at which point he would be seriously out-of-pocket.

C|NET 's Ina Fried says that..
update Microsoft is considering updating Windows XP before it releases Longhorn, a major overhaul of the industry's dominant operating system that is not expected for about two years.

Help Your Windows PC Masquerade as a Mac
via Google by J.D. BIERSDORFER at nytimes

Q. I have a Gateway PC running Windows XP. Would I be able to install the Macintosh operating system on my computer, or is that impossible?

A. The Macintosh operating system code is written to work with Macintosh-specific hardware, which uses a different processor and hard-drive file system from what you find on computers designed for use with Windows. This means you cannot run the Mac OS installer program on your PC. (But most modern computer systems that work with Windows will run a version of the Linux operating system.)

Went for a meal and drink here and hit my head on one of the low beams

Star Trek Enterprise Series 3 "Twilight"

Mike Sussman wrote the script for the twilight episode of Star Trek Enterprise Series 3 but is better known for the Star Trek Voyager episode Meld
when Tuvok security officer
on Voyager faces crime head-on.. and fails as is today in real life?
Twilight explains in no uncertain terms the reason for exploration and the need to reproduce in order to survive, which requires expansion! in order to asertain sanity..

re: Enterprise - The Shipment Angel - 7237th post - 16 Feb 2004 21:49
Both Twilight and Similitude are fantastic episodes that would not look out of place in any incarnation of Trek, IMO. After that there are still good episodes but none so far quite up to that level, although both Azati Prime and Damage promise to have a pretty good bash at doing so :)

flashpeak browser free download..

On IE and it's drivers..

By Craig Crossman
Knight Ridder Newspapers

If you crave all of those extra features missing in Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) without having to give up all that's desirable in that Web browser, stick around.
Microsoft's Internet Explorer is generally acknowledged to be the most popular Web browser out there. Yet it lacks many of the desirable features found in competing browsers such as Mozilla and Opera. However seamless integration with Windows, a greater compatibility with more Web sites, and the most support from third party plug-in modules and applications all continue to compel most Internet users into sticking with IE

Toronto Star notes that we are about to get a chance to see an astronomical very bright object in the pairing of Venus and the Moon's partial shadow tomorrow night in the early hours of the evening..

Beautiful pairing of moon and Venus tomorrow

TERENCE DICKINSON
THE UNIVERSE

If the sky is clear tomorrow evening around 6:30 or 7 p.m., look to the west to see the night sky's two most brilliant objects — the moon and Venus — making a rare pairing.

The duo will be three degrees apart, which is about the width of a loonie held at arm's length.

Close encounters of the moon and a planet, or of planets with each other, are known as conjunctions. When a conjunction involves the two most luminous celestial objects, as it does here, it can be a striking sight.

This is a case in which reality far exceeds the description. The moon and a planet near each other sounds a bit dull, but I urge you to just take a look.

It really can be a beautiful sight, with the thin crescent moon set off by the diamond-white brilliance of nearby Venus
